Many new moms can become quickly overwhelmed with the amount of household clutter a baby brings. From the baby gift basket you received at your shower to the flowerpots in your garage, you can organize your out of control clutter in a jiff.
Let's begin with a few ways to reuse that baby gift basket. If you have a newborn, you already know - it is the littlest of baby items that are the most difficult to store. This is especially true if you already have a curious toddler who likes to pull things from the drawers. Smaller baskets are perfect for storing tiny socks or bibs. Placed high upon the closet shelf, they are out of reach to tiny hands, yet, easily accessible when needed. The larger variety of a baby gift basket is ideal for storing diapers away. This serves two purposes. One - it gets clean diapers out of the drawers and frees up more space for babies other things. Two - it provides a more aesthetically pleasing look and is much easier to reach into than the diaper's original packaging.
Toy Storage Drawers
Unused flowerpots are a wonderful solution for storing those wayward crayons, scissors and glue sticks in your older children's rooms. A brush of craft paint and a clear coat of a glossy sealant create a beautiful finishing touch. This tip is especially adorable for little girls because it not only provides storage; it also adds a decorative touch to the room.
You breastfeeding mommies know that it can be difficult to store breast pump attachments inside of your kitchen drawers. The suctions can be far too bulky making it difficult to close the drawer shut. This is the perfect time to bring out those Halloween pails cluttering up your playroom floors. Fill the pail with the attachments for your pump and place high in the cupboard where little hands can't reach. Viola! You have knocked out three birdies with one stone. You found a place to store those attachments and managed to find an actual use for those old Halloween pails. When Halloween rolls around, you also won't have to tear the house down in search of them!
If you have more clutter than you can ever imagine stowing away, find time to let your baby spend with the sitter and go through some of his things. It can be difficult to part with any baby items but if you can manage to let go of a few things he has outgrown you will make room for more wonderful treats for baby. Giving to a local battered women's shelter is a nice way to encourage yourself to go through items your child has outgrown. Just thinking of all the women and children you will be helping will put you in the mood to really storm through that closet in record time. What's a good rule of thumb when parting with baby items? Keep the items that were his favorite or had special meaning (i.e. christening outfit, favorite toy, first walking shoes) and try to part with other items that he didn't wear often or that had no real sentimental meaning.
